Manu is a simple and straightforward doctor from London. He is intelligent, temperate and belongs to a respectable family, the perfect groom which every parent wants for their daughter. Family pressure leads him to Kanpur to meet Tanu the quintessential small town girl who has studied in Delhi. Tanu is a smart, intelligent girl who will do everything that her parents will disapprove. With a mind of her own and a love for rebellion, Tanu is totally against an arranged marriage. A generally underwhelming love story cannot make up its mind whether it wants to be a romantic comedy or a romantic melodrama

The New Indian Express

Tanu Weds Manu isn't all bad. There are portions in the first half that enjoyable. But held together by a fractured script, they fail to take good shape

The film roots for conformity rather than rebellion in love and not once do you feel a pang for the lovers

It doesn't take offense at anything but will charm you anyway.

A range of interesting supplementary acts distract us from the lead pair whose rocky path to the 'mandap' we are meant to follow with interest

Indian Express

Fun and feisty, just like Ms Ranaut, this is a movie worth watching

India Today

A feel-good, light-hearted entertainer with the right dose of humor, drama and romance, besides a popular musical score and some smart dialogue that act as toppings

BollywoodHungama

Fun while it lasts, Tanu Weds Manu throws up Bollywood's newest obsession - small town girls and their gunas (values) - once again. A meatier storyline and a less messed up climax would have worked wonders for the film.
