Abhay Gulati and Aaliya Khan have known each other since they were four years old. Their friendship turned into love at the tender age of 15, when Abhay realises Aaliya is the girl for him.

Aaliya’s life is defined by her burning desire to become an actress and she is unmindful of what or who comes in her way. Abhay who is still unsure about what he wants to do finds himself competing with Aaliya’s incessant plans and projects to fulfil her dreams. While their relationship blooms because of their personality differences, the baggage because of these differences also grows silently.

Things come to a head when Aaliya decides to go to Australia to study and Abhay has to deal with the prospect of a long term relationship, secretly fearing that he will lose Aaliya forever. He takes a leap of faith and they decide to take this time off from each other to figure out what they want to do.

The choices Abhay and Aaliya make from here on tests their relationship.

Aaliya risks everything and everyone she loves only to realise that there is no joy in achieving one’s dreams if one has no one to share it with. Abhayrisks losing every shred of his ego, dignity and self-respect only to realize that there is no bigger high than seeing your dream come to life, brick by brick. They make mistakes, deal with disappointments, even lose each other – and become stronger individually.

Break Ke Baad is not just a coming of age film, but a film about couples growing up - together. In a fickle world where relationshipsbreak up on the smallest of differences, Abhay and Aaliya manage to save theirs despite geographical ones.

A different...kind of bore. Watch if you've nothing better to do, haven't fought with the partner in a while and are missing the banter. Deepika Padukone and Imran Khan go all wordy and repetitive on us. You've seen the promos, you've seen the film. The few insights either get lost in the rambling or become redundant with every recurrence. Just like real life. But, of course, the film is far, far from it.

‘Break Ke Baad’ moves to Australia now where Aaliya is pursuing her dreams and shares her apartment with Nadia (Shahana Goswami) and Cyrus (Yudhishtr Urs). Hanging by thread, a convinced Romeo, Gulati, lands up in Australia too for reasons that add finishing touches to their ‘little break’.

This film is strictly for the kids who paid money and watched IHLS & liked it & for those who think Imran & Deepika are cute. The film is as bad and thanda as its trailer.

While Aslam’s direction was adequate, the story was weak – more of an exercise in been there-done that nothingness. The film had very little “masala” and lots of inane dialogue. It did get a little better after the interval, but really was 2 hours of he said-she said, and then they said some more. The lead pair didn’t seem to sparkle, or inspire any dewy-eyed moments. The good : the music is great; I liked almost all of the songs. Also, (whew !) there were no cheesy cartoon characters in this film.

This film tries to be the next, big, new age romance. But in it’s trying to be hot and happening, and edgily thoughtful at the same time, it loses it’s way, becoming instead a war of words between two under-developed characters. It was 2 hours long, but felt much longer.

Break Toh Banta Hai Boss!

I always thought Deepika couldn’t act. One up for her! She lives up to my expectations. She s-p-e-a-k-e-s her dialogues. Poker face. (Oh, I think she does move her brow once in a while - or is it just a twitch? ;) Ahem. And, how about getting a better hair stylist next time, Deepika? I can't recall the last time your hair (or even you!) looked good. Sexy legs won’t work every time.

Not sure what explains Imran's blank expressions in some frames, but he was definitely more tolerable than Deepika. Charming in a few scenes. He looked his best in I Hate Love Storys but.

Here's the plot. Imran, the good guy, is least ambitious unlike his chuddy buddy Aaliya (Deepika). He's not sure what he wants in life (like most of us). All he's really sure about, is Aaliya. (Aw, that's sweet!) He loves her to pieces. She loves him but is as sure about what she wants in life. An aspiring actress (even in the film ;) she moves to Australia to study. Imran, who can't imagine life without her, breaks on hearing this.

I won't say watch the movie to see what follows. The first half an hour is painfully slow and boring. (barring the credits in the beginning - innovative, for sure!) Keep no expectations from what ensues. Besides the first few minutes, all I really liked were the last 10. I wish that's where the film had begun. Music by Vishal Shekhar, is mediocre at best.

If you have seen the film, take a break (or indulge yourself in better films ;) if you haven't, don't book the tickets just yet. Wait for the DVD!
