Don 2 (Hindi)
Release Date:
December 23, 2011In 2006 with the ever looming dangers of the underworld in Malaysia, Don broke the morale of his associates by infiltrating the gang with an alias and taking advantage of the enmity of Singhania & Vardhaan. He rose to become the undisputed King of the underworld with his shrewd mind and merciless tactics.
The police in their pursuit of Don unknowingly hired the very man they were trying to hunt. Don used this to his advantage and let the police and his former associates battle each other while he escaped much to the bewilderment of everyone leaving no traces of evidence of his whereabouts.
Having conquered the Asian underworld, Don (Khan) now has his sights set on European domination. In his way are the bosses of the existing European underworld and all law enforcement agencies.
The action shifts from Kuala Lumpur to Berlin as Don must avoid assassination or arrest, whichever comes first, in order for his plan to succeed.
Conjuring up an original sequel to a remake of a cult classic is akin to playing with fire. This is why Don 2 comes with such high expectations and is an unfortunate letdown.
Rating: Catch on DVD for sure
Smart lines and slick camerawork turns into tiring witticism and regular big-budget technicalities because it is over-written and over-stylized. The few extra seconds taken to establish a scene with elegance give the crux of the scene away. This keeps this action-thriller from being crisp. Multiple, smart twists are pointless if you are going to chicken out in the climax.
Don 2 is basically about Don trying to steal billions of Euros.
Now you know why the Euro crashed.
Under the perfectly manicured visuals and action , there is sadly little to keep the viewer hooked.
Strictly speaking , it isn't a bad film. Problem is , it isn't a particularly good one either.
Don 2 was officially tagged with the title "The King is Back", don't know about the King, but Don is surely back. And back with charm, elan and flamboyance. One of the most technically sound action films to come out this season has to be this. The VFX and action sequences are not just thrown into your face for getting some muscle on it, instead the performances are enhanced with the addition of those scenes.
The film starts off with a piece where a conspiracy is being hatched to bump off Don, who is now a vulnerability more than a strength for them. Feelers are soon sent to the poised gangster at large, Don does know how to avoid a certain kill. Roma (Priyanka Chopra) is now a full-time shirt-wearing police officer, CBI officer Mallik (Om Puri) calls her to his room and informs her that he is soon going to retire. Mallik's proud of his record of booking over hundred criminals, but Roma reminds him of that one guy that he couldn't catch. No prizes for guessing.
Next thing you know, he shows up to surrender himself to the cops & seeks asylum in jail. It is this prison where Don meets Vardhan (Boman Irani) his nemesis, they don't share any pleasantries. Has Don ever remained confined? Then why would he do that? How will he survive with an alarming danger to his life, in the inside & outside world? Don has some plan all along, but you won't realize what that comprises of.
Letting Don transform into a six-feet-something gentleman besides more foolish ideas like allowing him to beat the most sophisticated security system of the world at the drop of a dialogue...
