Kucch Luv Jaisaa (Hindi)
Release Date:
May 27, 2011Kuchh Luv Jaisa is a story about a house wife, Madhu (Shefali Shah), who gets ditched by her husband (Sumit Raghavan) and kids on her birthday which happens to come once in four years, Feb 29. Now Madhu is left with two options - she can either choose to sit at home and sulk, pity herself for the next four years or reinvent her boring, mundane life into an exciting one and take a grip over it.
She eventually decides to head out and enjoy her birthday according to her whims and fancies. She splurges her husband`s money in an unusual way. She shops for clothes, gets a makeover at an expensive parlour and above all buys a car! It is an unusually fun filled day for her until she meets Raghav (Rahul Bose), a criminal on the run who is trying to mingle with the `normal` crowd posing as an undercover agent so that he can escape the cops.
A ditzy and happy-go-lucky Madhu runs into Raghav at a coffee shop where he is planning his next move and in this process a casual conversation begins. Mistaking him for a detective she requests him to be a part of one of his cases only for a day and from this Raghav takes his cue. He continues to pretend that he is one! With this begins a day-long adventure of the duo which changes their lives forever
When Kucch Luv Jaisaa started, I thought like Pyaar Ka Punchnaama was chicken soup for the frustrated young man's soul, this one would be just what the doctor ordered for the bored-with-Ekta-serials' souls. But, I doubt they'd see themselves run silly behind a stranger with a gun.
The film grips you so much as to lift your expectations even while you're just settling in your seats. Madhu (Shefali Shah), a dutiful wife and a mother of two, has apparently been forgotten by all, her life centres around (on her birthday). She's dismayed and hurt but after the initial cribbing she decides to celebrate it her way.
All's well until she meets Raghav (Rahul Bose) where the film starts dawdling beyond one can imagine. (Just so you can read between the lines (and the pictures ;), the disclaimer in the pic above is wholly and solely misleading. It's not even half as much fun ;) Given a good beginning you want to believe there's more to the film than what your eyes are registering. And there infact is. There is a subject out there. But KLJ is a classic example of "could've-been-a-great-film turned into a nightmare."
The script is so loose you almost want to walk out. Bose is a disappointment. Neetu Chandra, his love, is another wasted character. Shefali Shah is a brilliant actor but I wonder if she herself believed in the character she was potraying. It's random, rare, and outlandish-ly complex.
Spare yourself the ennui. Skip it!
