Gangs of Wasseypur II (Hindi)

Release Date:
August 08, 2012

Wasseypur is no more the town that was once consumed by the raging war between Sardar Khan and Ramadhir Singh. It has spawned a new generation of money squandering lobbyists, turning into foolhardy gangs overnight. With illegal profiteering through scrap trade auctions over the Internet, corrupt government officials, election rigging and hooliganism, the town got murkier. Everyone wanted alliance with the most powerful man of Wasseypur, Faizal Khan. His sole ambition however, is to annihilate Ramadhir Singh, the man with the grand scheme. Gangs Of Wasseypur 2 is a fitting conclusion to this story of vengeance, which by now, not just the family but also this town has come to inherit.

We are torn, constantly, between the scenic wonders along the way, so compelling that they demand that we stop and stare, and the need to reach the destination. Like Part I, Gangs of Wasseypur II works on a scene-by-scene level rather than as a cohesive whole

The Hindu

Overlong and tiring, this film is saved by memorable characters and the fine actors who bring them to life.

Works on its ironic, cynical, wry path. But the minute emotions slip in, it flattens and turns filmi

GOW2 is a follow-through that is shot through with flashes of brilliance, and some wonderful comic verve, but that doesn’t have the enthralling power and spread of the first film.

Indian Express

Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2 might not be as perfect as its prequel. Yet its two steps ahead of any revenge-drama, the most exploited genre and sentiment in Bollywood

Times of India

The second part of Anurag Kashyap’s film is a blow-out. The violence soars spectacularly, but the story does not rise above the mundane. It is a smug, tiresome follow-up

Gangs Of Wasseypur II provides enough cinematic memorabilia to single-handedly last us the summer

Rediff

If you enjoyed 1, you will not be disappointed with 2. And if you haven’t seen either yet, go for the double bill and enjoy a rare, complete 5-hour cinematic experience

A smarter, better crafted extension of GOW

There’s so much to take back – mood, flavour, character, attitude – yet it leaves you slightly vexed, and wanting more. Not more in terms of duration, but in content

Its visual flair, its absolutely remarkable performances, its piquant dialogues – these are enough to cancel out any instinctive annoyance one might feel at its maddening refusal to kowtow to any notion of plot.

Firstpost

A good follow-up to its predecessor but too much blood and guts overshadow the rustic charm

Filmfare

Patience and a real kaleja will see you through this fast-paced, exhilarating blood fest

Gangs of Wasseypur 2 has more gore than the first but less entertainment. Too long-drawn to hold your attention and doesn't match up to the brilliance of its predecessor

With excellent performances, a screenplay that's strung together beautifully a revenge story that touches a dramatic crescendo and music that plays out perfectly in sync with tragic twists of tale - 'GOW II' is an interesting watch, for the brave-hearted.

Times of India

If you liked Gangs Of Wasseypur, there is no reason why won’t have another blast watching GOW II

An engaging movie with several bravura moments. Watch it for its absolute cinematic brilliancy!
