Rizvan Khan, a Muslim man from India, moves to San Francisco and lives with his brother and sister-in-law. Rizvan, who has Aspergers, falls in love with Mandira. Despite protests from his family they get married and start a small business together. They are happy until September 11, 2001 when attitudes towards Muslims undergo a sea-change. The constraint is really appreciated both in terms of Karan Johar's direction and Shah Rukh Khan's performance. But unfortunately, in the last hour the movie leaves the US and enters K-Jo-land. And in both worlds Kajol intolerably shrieks her way through.

SRK + Kajol + KJo was always = DDLJ, the evergreen love story. But MNIK is its complete antithesis. While DDLJ was entertaining with a tight but simple story-line and endearing performances, MNIK is neither able to deep-dive into the political and religious issues that surround 9/11 and its aftermath nor does it serve to be an evenly paced entertainer.

MNIK is the story of Rizvan Khan(Shahrukh Khan) who suffers from Asperger Syndrome who moves to San Francisco and falls in love with Mandira (Kajol) and the momentous journey he undertakes, in the post 9/11 world, to deliver the message to the US President that all Muslims are not terrorists. In the short span of Rizvan's journey to meet the President, KJo has packed in almost all the significant events in the history of USA post 2001 till date - detention on grounds of being a Muslim, torture in prisons (Guantanamo Bay, anyone!), a hurricane (Katrina!), elections and Bush stepping down for Obama. And in all of this, Rizvan has been portrayed as a Saviour of mankind.

9/11 and terror attacks as their backdrop have inspired many-a films, the recent ones being New York and Kurbaan and MNIK tries to be inspirational but fails miserably. It takes on too many heavy issues and is not able to do justice to any. It comes out as a badly researched movie, at times depicting situations which an Asperger Syndrome patient is highly unlikely to do or get into.

KJo is best when he makes cholocatey romances and K-Movies... these kind of serious cinema is not his cup of ummm... Koffee! I add 2 spoons of sugar in mine... I rate it 2.

My Name is Khan is Karan Johar's best effort till date. He shows uncharacteristic restraint for most part of the film and that results into a touching emotional tale brightened up by a brilliant performance from the King Khan. However, Johar lapses into his familiar territory during the second half, which spoils a lot of the fun.

What I found really sad about the movie was that it was to apparently disparage a Stereotype ("My Name is Khan and I am not a terrorist"), but it tried to do so by accentuating other stereotypes - about the Whites, the Blacks, the law enforcement etc. It seemed like an insincere attempt from KJ.
