3 Lives, 3 Destinies, connected by one name - 'David'
David is a slick and classy struggle between right and wrong. If only all three stories had enough meat to make for a 2+ hour film. Only 1.5 of the 3 do.
Sometimes we just let the things go despite of our heavy ambitions, and believe that it was "God" who intervened in between to make it happen it that way. And in most of the cases, it's just the cause-effect theory taking place: some random events become reason for happening of the other. That's how two of the three stories in this film, the one of Londoner David (1975-1999) and the David in Mumbai (1999), find their connect. While the other David is in Goa, 2010.
David is food for thought. Bejoy Nambiar in his second directorial outing leaves his audiences with a thought – Sometimes wrong seems to be right. Circumstances might make wrong appear right but in fact, wrong can never be right.
To establish this philosophy, the director uses the life-stories of three men born in three different eras. How their otherwise individual and separate destinies get interwoven thanks to a series of political, romantic and religious turn of events forms the essence of this story of situations and characters.
David is a very interesting movie about 3 characters of the same name in different era's and how an action in one era has a reaction onto the next one....
All the characters are vey layered and all of them going through a lot of intensity inside themselves...
This movie has to be felt and so the pacing is current although many viewers may feel it to be a drag....
Even the climax cannot be categorised as Happy or Sad...
But the satisfaction of watching such a movie is immense...
It is made up of moments which linger in mind after the movie...
Few of them which stand out such as ...
1) The Don's son burstout to David about his father loving him more than his son...
2) Or the scene where 1975 David asks his don..the truth about the relation he shared with his mother....
3) the scene where the flat broker explains the 1999's David about marketing of underwear..
4) the relationship the 2010 David shares with his friend Tabu, his deceased father, and his mother...
All in all it needs to be felt to be understood .....
